A Few Words About the Lyrics

I do not claim that these lyrics are 100% correct, but they are perhaps 100% more correct than what you'll find at other and web sites. There are some lyrics that are very nearly impossible to transcribe (the song Elvis Presley and America comes to mind). Bono is a great singer, but the man just does not enunciate sometimes. He also has a tendency to do a little "scat singing", as he calls it, every now and then. Where possible, I have transcribed this (as best I could) phonetically. Other instances of scat singing which do not directly contribute to the song's meaning have been omitted entirely. This is not a "mistake" on my part, but merely an editorial decision.

Please note that The U2 Lyrics Archive is NOT a discography. The 7-inch orange vinyl picture disc bootleg demo promo single limited-edition copy of New Year's Day (yes, I made that up) does not interest me unless the lyrics are substantially different than the version on War.

Notation Guide:

Words in (parentheses) are either spoken lyrics, or "background voices". Words in [square brackets] are my comments. In songs where two or more people are singing at the same time, I have put simultaneous lyrics more or less on the same line (see The Fly for an example of this).

A lot of people have mailed me with suggestions, and I've incorporated them where I've seen fit. If you have any corrections or find any typos, don't hesitate to email me. My email address is at the bottom of every page.
